Yet there are people who wish to help solve the problems karting has and convey the thoughts of those involved in the sport but are shunned because it doesn't fit 'THEIR' remit (noun).

Hence the even bigger problem that has now emerged.

It's human nature to expect that someone else will clear up the mess, why else do people drop litter?

Luckily there are dedicated people who tirelessly take on this role year on year like the MSA and ABkc, without them it probably would be even more chaotic.

Therein lies the problem though. They get too comfortable, they slip off their shoes and then don their slippers and slide down the leather Chesterfield thinking all is well with the world.

I had the same problem with my Working Mans Club where I've been a member for 50 years.

It had an ancient committee going back an unbelievable 70 years! All very commendable but the membership was virtually extinct and it was debt ridden. They wanted to sell the building for Ł10m and I stood to net Ł70k+

We, I say we but being old I had no wish to exacerbate the situation by sitting on the committee myself, undertook a military style coup at the AGM and ousted the committee but kept the president who had been a lifetime friend.

The club now has a much younger committee who are trying new ideas and listening to members through social media and we have installed WiFi in the club.

The President has the knowledge and expertise gained from past experience to help the younger committee if necessary.

Already, from huge debts we have Ł50,000 in the bank by letting out the halls to media, film and entertainment companies and have something to hand on to young members coming in. We have 9 full size snooker tables that had been unused for years.

Once we cut the 'self interest' rope the problems began to disappear.

I know firsthand how difficult it is to run a company, a club and a committee, it's no enviable task but you need to invoke the gift that you have of hearing and LISTEN to people.

Their views may be individual or common but are no less worthy of attention.

Somewhere there will be an acceptable solution for the majority.

It has got to change though.
