As I said, it's your right to your opinion. But.....I cannot possibly put a 'percentage/odds' rating on it, as you have, at better than 50:50.

.... how the hell did you get enough data to be able to calculate the odds are better than 50:50?

You say that the helmet could reduce the neck injuries in certain accidents (agreed) but how did you calculate the odds that it might NOT make the injuries WORSE in other types of accidents?

For example, how do you know that preventing further movement of the head would not lead to MORE injuries by 'stretching' or 'twisting' the neck when the helmet 'levers' against the 'brace'?

Secondly, how did you 'calculate' that young children's necks are more at risk than older children's necks? Perhaps more flexible necks make the young kids safer.....? I just can't see how you can have enough data to know this stuff. I certainly don't have that data but, if you have it, publish it here so we can consider it.

Consider the motorcycle helmet and the bicycle helmet:-

Deaths and major injuries reduced when motorbike helmets were made compulsory because more people were wearing them. It was thus assumed that bicycle helmets would similarly increase safety...... however, the figures DO NOT show such an improvement! In fact, the cycle helmets (seem to) reduce one 'class' of injury but (seem to) INCREASE another class of equally dangerous injuries and thus there has not been an increase in 'safety' since more people started wearing them.

On a fun side of this, I am 'involved' with academic Neurosurgeons. They often complain that the motorcycle helmet laws have reduced the number of patients on which then can gain data...... they used to refer to ALL motorcyclist...... simply as 'donors'......

Once again, let me stress, I think it's YOUR choice: I just don't see that any of us can 'know' the facts on these things at present.
