True Alan !

Well it wasn't a sealed unit after all, screws hidden behind a decal.
I removed the laser diode which was 100% working, and realised that the clear plastic cover in the housing was cracked.
With nothing to loose, I used a 0.5mm HSS drill bit to drill out the plastic.
Replaced the laser diode after re-soldering a flaky connection that was causing it to turn off/on.

I will check the set-up with another set of lasers when I get the chance, but tbh it looks OK and its clearer than the other one, so I might "mod" that one too!
