Don't worry about using the indicator bolt. Sometimes the gasket blocks it. Always best to drain and put a measured amount in. Connect the vent to a pipe and into an overflow bottle with a small vent in the bottle. Any that blows out should end up in the bottle. Oil tends to blow out over a few hours so refill about every 5 hours. Take the cover plate off occasionally just to check everything OK inside. Occasionally the o ring which acts as a spacer behind the gesr on the crank can break up, allowing the gear to float. Download to workshop manual from the JAG websit. Tells you all you need to know.
