'Bottom line the part is yours legal or not' suggests that the part should be returned to you to do what you will with it. Not always the case in the outside world.e.g The police have powers to confiscate and destroy your car if found illegal due to no insurance etc. without any right of appeal?.
So in the karting world the governing body could specify that any 'illegal' part could/would be confiscated and destroyed,with or without an appeal procedure. Just need it written in the rule book and by entering the event you waive any rights to return of said part in 'as was ' condition.
