To a large extent karting is in the hands of private commercial operators as they set the class rules, including tyres. These are then submitted to the MSA for approval and inclusion in the Year books. The scrutineers now know what is allowed for each class.
Tracks running IKR event have the choice of using these `class' regulations or writing their own or throwing it open e.g. any tyres the driver wants.
The advantage of class regulations is knowing that you can race at any track with the same equipment - would you be happy if say Clay insisted on Dunlop tyres and Whilton set Vega and GYG another brand?
