I would think for a midweek test, as long as you've got a decent enough helmet, gloves, overalls/suit and boots that cover your ankles, you'd be fine.

I've seen kids batting round whilton in their trainers...

It's only really for race weekends where you'd need stuff that was up to spec.

I imagine Whilton would be able to lend you a helmet and overalls as they do A&D as well. Better to call them and ask though.
