I prefer to trust the bearing manufacturers. They pack them with grease for a reason. Most people recommend removing the grease because they think it frees up the axle. However, at high rpm's friction will be increased, the temperature of the bearing will increase and the wear on the bearing will increase.

Leave the grease in; don't wash your bearings out with anything; don't put WD40 in them. When they show signs of wear, replace them.

All in my opinion of course.
