Go to Machine Mart or any other suitable tool supplier and purchase a dead blow rubber mallet. A sensible weight mallet though...

Everyone should have one anyway and they cost less than a new disc or disc carrier.
That way you can remove axles and move sticky hubs, brake disc carriers etc without damaging them. No need for making any make shift edges to hit the axle with.

It should fly out.
