If you were well off, the small pair of wheels that fitted up the engine rail tube. But remember back in the good old days, the pit/paddock area was very much smaller than today, so carrying it was easy, aided of course by the karts weighing about 30kgs less than now! At Rye, virtually the entire entry would be pitted between the dummy grid and the weighing scales!
