If you have the Start Karting pack you will have a copy of the Blue Book, go to Page 172 for the standards accepted. If the helmet does not have a Snell or BS6658 sticker it is probably a motor bike EC22 standard which is not permitted for motor racing
If your son is under 12 you should get him a Snell CMR 2007 standard helmet

The BS6658 Type A Blue sticker will not be accepted from 1. Jan, rest is ok for another year or more
