Whichever you're using, go and buy a metre of plastic drain pipe, a pair of wall mounting pipe clamps and two roding ends (like screw on caps).
Make up a metre long tube with a cap on either end and fix vertically to the wall in a convenient place inside or out.
Take the top off and put the exhaust in with a loop of wire on it, add your preferred solution to cover the exhaust and replace the cap, leave for however long is required and then remove exhaust with the wire. You can then resuse the solution until it's spent, with much less risk of slashing or the cat/kids falling in the tub of caustic.
From experience, castor based oils create carbon that is a lot harder to remove.
