I personally would use the money to buy a new battery, a multimeter and a decent battery charger.

Keep the battery well charged and use the multimeter as a guide to the battery condition. It wont tell you how good the battery is under load but it will give you a guide to its charge.

There are posts on here about what voltage a charged battery should be at.
