Winger, depending on the material they are made from, some helmets cannot be painted, you will have to check.
I used normal car paint (cellulose) on my son's helmets with a lacquer and both were supplied by our local paint supplier - if you ask them, they will advise.
You can use a two-pack synthetic paint but then you would have to look at air aspirated face masks because the paint contains poisons - not good if you breathe in the fumes!
