Yeah, some engines are much closer than others from new. Generally the less power you start with the bigger the problem seems to be.

Which is why the problem is worse in Cadets. If you start with only 7HP and can find 5% by parts selection that 0.3/4 hp can be worth 5 to 7 tenths on the track. When the top 10 drivers can be seperated by 2/10ths that's huge and it's what makes good cadet engines so expensive.

But if you have 30hp and find 5%, what's the extra 1.5 hp worth? Not that much I guess.
