sometimes people are their own worst enemy. At a practice last year I was asked by a novice if his disc was OK. It had a big chip in it and a variety of nicks and bumps all round the edge.
More worrying there were a number of hairline cracks running across the disc.
I told him to replace it, but some time later noticed he had just come in from practice with it still on. He'd found someone else who told him it was OK to race.
Luckily we were in parc ferme and the scrutineer there took a look and told him to replace it.
When he unscrewed the bolts a whole chunk fell out, it had only been held in place by the bolt.
You can imagine what might have happened if it had come apart on the track.
