This is the advice given to scrutineers last year and still stands until further information is given this year:
It has been brought to our attention that there are a variety of chassis protectors appearing on karts that in some cases can present a hazard. When presented with a kart with such a device fitted please take extra care to check it over, particularly with a view to safety. Chassis protectors should be fixed to the chassis by at least two mechanical fixings and if you deem it in any way to present a hazard please ask the competitor to remove it on the grounds of safety. Please also keep in mind wear levels, if a chassis protector looks like it will not last another day’s competition then again ask for it to be removed prior to the kart being allowed out on circuit.
Then the following month:-
Chassis Protectors In last month’s edition of Scrutineers News we advised about the increasing popularity of chassis protectors. Further to that article and following discussions with various parties we would like to further advise that any such devices should be of a single piece construction and fixed by two independent bolt fixings.
