"the only problem with the first one was you had your favourites....."

I assume you mean the same people kept winning, coming from the back of the grid to do it.... which meant they got most of the coverage.... That's not favouritism, it's a natural result of exceptional performance. If you actually look back at The TKM Festival footage from 2008 (the last time we filmed a normal, rather than revers grid) you will notice the amount of coverage we give to those throughout the field, not just the leaders, as does happen with some coverage.

Funnily enough.....I was accused of wanting Danny Russell to win Snr Max in Season 2 by a competitor's mum.... the same weekend that he was told by me in no uncertain terms that a repeat of an incident on track (on the practice day) would result in him being sent home.... Strange that that driver's mum thought he was one of my favourites, not least because that was my first real conversation with him! I didn't know him before the season started.

" but not every one is perfect..."

Yes I am! You know it!

..."the only downside with the S1 is the only drivers to get on tv would have to get through to final 2."

We have a time constraint, 4 x 12 minute parts, and I've stated the reason why we do this. If you watch the Stars coverage, they have a 30 minute programme, and as a result not even every class gets coverage, never mind individual drivers. That has got to be frustrating if you were in a class not featured, and happened to have a great result that day.

By telling you up front what we will be filming, everyone is aware of what to expect, and if you have a good result are likely to feature heavily in the programme (although we cannot guarantee specific coverage as cameramen have to make on the spot decisions about what and who they follow. Onboard cameras on EVERY kart will make it easier to give good exposure to someone the main cameras may miss, perhaps as they drive from P30 to finish, say, 5th)

I always take the grand final (or in this case Final 2, being the last race of the day), and concentrate on giving this race the maximum exposure. The alternative would be covering both finals, but the time slot after grid positions graphics, interviews, feature, results and championship pts graphics etc. would effectively mean you get a short highlights exposure, which would almost inevitably mean you do tend to get what's happening only at the front of the field. We could film both finals, but that would really require a two hour programme to be sure we do each race justice. That in itself is a more costly process. We have already invested around £35,000 in new equipment to future proof our coverage and film the first ever full HD coverage of a karting event (although Motors TV is only currently an SD channel, so we will downconvert to SD 16:9 widescreen). The cards we record to cost over £500 each and we can film up to 100 mins at full HD resolution only, using 32gb cards. Allowing 20 minutes per race maybe, it would require us to invest a further £2350 in cards alone if we then want to film an additional 4 races, plus four extra long life batteries at £200 each. The raid array in the editing system would also have to be upgraded, due to the size of the HD files.

It's something we could consider in the longer term perhaps, but for this season the agreement is for a one hour programme, and we want to give each race we film decent coverage. Perhaps if we cut down the grid position/results graphics etc and did not do any features, but we want to make a rounded programme and the grid graphics allow you to include a sponsor's brand image. It can be argued either way, but this is the reason for filming and editing Final 2 only.

If you have a great result in Final 1 and then get punted off in Final 2, turn 1, it's a bummer, but my reason for the posting is to try and make sure everyone understands what they can expect from a finished programme.

I must try and answer in less words....!
