It is banned on race days but one of the rules that is very difficult for clubs to enforce as they would need officials walking the paddock and going into awnings to try and catch people. Some people will use a heat gun and then rough up the surface with a surform - makes it very difficult to prove a heat gun was used.
In FKS and S1 it is easy to control as race tyres are held in parc ferme.
A surform will do the job with a bit of elbow grease (as opposed to clutch grease) and it may even be a better option as you avoid the heating/cooling cycle which could be detrimental to the tyres.
This is only a cadet issue as they pick up the rubber that other classes put down.
