Some justified and constructive comments, much of which has already been addressed in the second programme you will see on Monday.

I am probably a bigger critic than most of my own work, and won't go into some of the technical stuff to do with the filming and editing too deeply. Suffice to say we had issues with the onboard camera footage and some of the main camera footage, partly due to the fact we were using HD cameras for the first time in anger, and the changing light conditions caused some headaches with sun in and out, literally blowing out highlights in the middle of a shot as the sun came out from behind a dark cloud, compared to the SD cameras we have used previously, where this was a more manageable circumstance. HD cameras are far more susceptible to changes in light than SD cameras, but we made technical changes to the camera settings to address this last week, successfully.

The sound was poor, due mainly to the fact previous programmes always aired with sound that needed the volume increasing, and I decided to boost the output to a max of -3db, compared to -12db. This was a mistake in hindsight, although the sound was much worse on the TV than it sounded on the tape or the DVD I have produced.

As I have said, at PF we made some technical changes to the camera settings and as a consequence have significantly better footage technically. There was also a lot more action at PF, so it does make for a better programme, but others can judge.

I have literally just finished burning the HD version of the Rotax programme that will be on Motors TV on Monday, and it is visually the most stunning karting event you are likely to see when viewed in HD on a large plasma screen... truly amazing picture quality. When downconverted to SD and broadcast, there is no comparison, you really have to see it in full 1920x1080HD to appreciate the image quality, and I hope to have an example on display when we next film at Round 3.

All in all, I agree with much of the criticism, but watch Monday's programme and I think you will see some improvements as a consequence of what we learned as a result of our experiences making the first programme for a while, using HD equipment for the first time in difficult conditions. (sounds a nonsense, but at one point the wind in my position made my eyes water so much I couldn't see to focus, and a 0.75mm turn on the focus ring was needed to pull the focus.... difficult when you can't really see...)

I'm away now filming the TKM event at the weekend, and editing thereafter, so will not be able to answer any further comments, criticism or questions. Suffice to say, I accept we must do better, and watch Monday to judge if we improved.

As for the actual content.... can I just point out that because the programme IS shown throughout Europe, and not just the UK, the task of translating interviews and features into 20+ languages for European commentators makes it difficult for us to spend more than around 90 seconds or so at the start of each race on a feature/interview etc.

Ben once did a very nice opening feature in a Motors TV programme that lasted around 2min 15 secs or so, and although it was great for the UK, I had the programme controller complaining at the length of the piece, as it caused them a significant amount of extra work. If it was only shown in the UK, we could do some longer features (at the expense of showing the racing), but it's more difficult with the European network coverage we have.

Buck stops with me.... C+ (as a technical mark) was outrageous: much too generous...... Monday 8.10pm to see what I think is a big improvement technically, and some amazing race action. Got to see it in HD to truly appreciate it though, really amazing.
