A club I am involved with recently bought one of this type of tester and thats were this limited knowledge was gained.

We always use Shell V power and ELF HTX909 oil, this combination generally gives a reading in the low -40's.

To get accurate readings the instrument needs to be calibrated against a standard hydrocarbon 'cyclohexane' and the 'head' needs to be cleaned after use and the reading for 'air' should return to about -270.

The test is intended for screening competitors fuel for further laboratory analysis.

What reading were they getting?
