It's not at all the same thing as a 25 year old helmet. The excuse is to take old helmets out the system. How can that be right when new helmets of this standard can still be bought. Let alone the fact the CIK/FIA deem that they are good to 2013. ONLY the MSA have decided to remove them.

It's the hypocrasy with helmets regulations as well, how can a helmet with minor damage be failed in scrutineering, yet the freshly painted helmet with potentially repaired damage be allowed?

Then there is the whole argument over replacing lightly damaged helmets anyway. Blown out the water by the motorcyle press 20 years ago, but still used to sell more helmets. In a crash, especially on a motorcycle, the helemt is likey to take multiple impacts, one after another. What use is a helmet that will fail after the first impact?

I have no argument with standards improving, but where is the evidence, anadotle or otherwise that existing designs are allowing preventable injuries? On a full cadet grid today, I counted 12 'mint' Arai SK-5's along with all the other makes, it's utter stupidity to force all these parents to buy new helmets. How many of these kids will move up early to a Junior class, just to avoid buying a new lid or go Non MSA?
