One thing to bear in mind is that you can keep you weight the same by piuling on the protein for muscle and losing the fat, though the more muscle you have the faster you will naturally burn calories at rest
When I tried getting fitter I aimed to lose some weight and also put on some msucle so started training and went on a diet
When I'd lost enough weight I retured to a "normal" eating pattern and trained less but still lost weight steadily, so had to start eating more to maintain weight - the extra muscle tissue was burning up more fuel a day
It's good though because so long as you maintain the muscle density you don't have to lay off the cake as much :P
