The only meeting I ever had my engine stripped was a non-MSA meeting (the only place I was ever particularly competitive but still...).
In my experience cheating only really occurs when the perceived rewards outweigh the risks and that, for most people, never occurs but for a select few is an ever present temptation all the more prevalent the higher up the sport you go. For some reason, karting seems to have the most fervent opposition to cheating. In car racing, whilst nobody likes a cheat, cheaters are met with a much less emotive response. Perhaps something to do with the difference in ratio of necessary budget to available budget the further up the ladder you go.
