I take the opposite view, if some saddo wants to win a club championship with their cheque book, fine, who really cares. But they shouldn't be able to call themselves or worse their kid, British Champion, on the back of how much money they can spend.

If pool engines were mandatory for national championships, it would remove 90% of the demand for parts selected/fettled engines and this would filter back down to club level. Which of course is why it will never happen.
