I've seen enough of the sport to know for a fact that you need exceptional engines to win in Cadets and most Junior classes at National level and that out the box engine are rarely if ever quick enough. Anyone who says different IMO, has a vested interest to surpress the truth or has their head in the sand.

BUT, even if all the engines were equal and it's a myth that the're not. Just the perception of unequal engines is enough to cause problems and limit the numbers entering the sport.
I was under the impression that radical solutions were needed to get and keep people in karting, I believe pool engines would do this.

Just consider the other options that open up when you give everyone the same engine and you fix the cost. Clubs could easily budget to provide bursaries for their class champions to compete in the British Championship the following year. Any organisation or business could run talent hunts or competitions for drivers and enter them, not only for a known cost, but also in the knowledge that if they have talent they have a chance of being competitive. WOW karting Utopia, I'll dream on;)
