The feeling among those who actually have a licence (rather than the paddock lawyers), is that the penalty plus points was a double whammy. There was also a possibility that some potential offences were going unpunished because of this. Just a possibility, mind! (For the devious among us, there is more than one way to skin a cat).

The thinking behind the trial is that the driver can now be penalised without hitting the licence. Therefore potentially more drivers can be penalised, the penalties can happen more often and if that is the case, driving standards may improve if you don't want to be in front of the beak too often.

What might also happen is that serial offenders might be invited down to the big house to explain why their name appears on the Stewards Judicial Forms so often. Just cos the points aren't going on doesn't mean you won't fall foul of the system if you choose to abuse it.

The press release is just that. You need to dig a bit deeper to get the full story. Typical of today's "me" society is the desire for everything to be spoon fed. Why not ask a sensible question?

Respect to Zico and other voices of reason. Shame on the sheep who whinge first and think never.

/rant.
