A set of cadet SL3 slicks could last you most of the year depending on how often you practice/race especially if your driver is a novice and therefore going through the steep learning curve.
Although the tyres do wear, cadets tend to pick up rubber from the other classes (as you have found) rather than dump it on the track.
Why not buy a new set of tyres and rims and then, from time to time do a back-to-back test and only change to the newer rubber when the lap times improve with it.
