5mm each side will make a difference that is noticeable.
On the rear going from 138-139-140cm will make a large difference Too the balance of the kart.
Most of the time I change width by 2.5mm each side.
And as davidmc said it's not as simple as the classic move out to lose grip in to gain.
It could be l it's possibly a seat problem, maybe the material is too stiff.
