In that case, pick a professional team where the people running it have to earn a living from it and have the experience, data and equipment to put their drivers up the front.

I don't really want to mention team names, but there are some out there that are run by people who basically know how to bolt a kart together and get it somewhat near the pace but not a lot else. Then there are those that consistently run at the front. There is rarely a difference in price charged.

Finally, don't judge a book by its cover. That is to say, anybody can buy all the shiny bits and look the part. Results don't lie.
