The following link is to a site that sells the Myhcron sensor. It works out about £25.00 but you will have to factor in the postage. Maybe you could combine with some others who need them and share the postage. It illustrates just how the karter is fleeced in the UK, does it not? The sensor does not have to be mounted under the plug. If you bolted it to the cylinder head the temerature would reach the same level, just a little slower. Also it would cool more slowly.
