No Doubt it is to promote their products! ;)

But it works both ways i think. The karting was billed as the main event, and the crowds absolutely loved it. You never know, this sort of thing brings F1 to the crowds (and a Nascar!), but it can also bring karting to them. And the whole thing was free! Didn't pay a penny, other than setting the laptimes at my local track to qualify for the regionals!

The Regional at Buckmore was free, and the street race in Dmax karts was free. So i think there are benefits to be had by all. Not to mention tickets for the event were free too!

I believe Mr Jenman also demonstrated an EasyKart around the circuit too for the crowds!
