hi, basic electrics question please...

I have made a hand held starter, from a bike starter motor and a small battery.

The power is turned on and off using a spring operated push button switch from a karts wiring loom (hoping the switch would be suitable/able to handle the amperage)

The issue I have is that when I operate the press button starter switch it smokes.

What can I do to avoid this overheating of the switch?
Do I need a heavier duty switch and can anyone suggest one please.(explain the flaw in my design)

(I am using heavy duty jump leads for the wiring)
