As told to me by somone who should know, some/most is fact, the rest????

So if you think UK karting has problems read this.

Final round of a National Championship in the 10 to 12 year olds age group, at a circuit a long way from the centre of karting influence in the country. One of the long shot contenders is the son of the manager of the hire kart track next to the race circuit. A widely known and several times caught out cheat in his own right.

In the final the lad comes in 5th which puts him 4th overall in the championship. Until the first 4 are all disqualified for modified (skimmed) heads, which then makes the local boy National Champion. As a result team members belonging to the disqualified drivers (a major european manufacturers factory team at that)go on a demolition spree at the circuit because they think the decision is partisan/ due to influence from the circuit manager/local scrutineer.

3 of the 4 disqualified drivers go on to pay the 3000€ appeal fee. The parts are sent to the Italian manufacturer who confirm that they are not legal and have been modified. However, the Federation check engine numbers for the previous round and find that the same engines were used and that because they passed scrutineering on that occasion, the teams/drivers could reasonably expect them to conform at the final round?????????? In other words because they got away with cheating before they were clear to carry on. Thus they were reinstated in the championship.

You might think this decision perverse, but not half as much as the 4th driver who couldn't afford the €3000 appeal fee/bribe, and although in exactly the same situation wasn't reinstated.

Jackanory or not? I couldn't possibly comment.
