I don't see many (any) engine builders making serious money. They can certainly earn themselves a living, in the same way that most people participating earn a living doing something. You cannot really begrudge them that.

It's typically parts that have an apparently inflated price but I'd be surprised if any significant percentage of that margin is taken by the importer. Even if it is, when factoring in the overheads of operating a business, along with what in real terms are low sales figures, there are only a few at the top of the pile that are making serious money and, even then, definitely not more than a sizable share of the current karting demographic.
