There was a LOT of grumbling about this on Sunday - qouting (roughly) from an S1 official who was being berated by angry parties
"You all signed up for the championship regulations" - in response to complaints that points would be awarded without the finals run (the angry parties had gone below par in heats as I understood)
HOWEVER, that was before the meeting was stopped - at the time the intention was that the meeting would be completed to the end of ALL heats, not just the Rotax engined classes - as it was this didn't happen, with the Hondas not running
The series regulations state (see 1.7.6.1/1.8.5.1) that should the meeting fail to reach the end of the heats stage then NO points will be awarded for the meeting and the championship cut by 2 finals to 10 best from 12
Note that the wording of the regulations states that this applies to the meeting, not to individual classes, and therefore a literal interpretation of the regulations would mean the whole meeting was effectively voided.
Some officials seemed intent on making the 4 rotax class points stand nonetheless, in effect, violating the same regulations that all competitors had signed up for - the motivations for which will likely be subject to much speculation.
Ultimately, those who did well will want the points to stand, and those who did badly will want it voided - simple fact - people will interpret the rules however they want.
My personal opinion would be to try and appease both camps by:
(a) Allowing the single "final" points awarded to stand but also:
(b) Allowing an extra dropped round (so that rotax drivers would now get 10/13 to count)
I believe that would be a reasonable middle ground, which would allow those who wanted to keep their points to keep them, but limit the damage to those who want the literal interpretation of the rules upheld
