Staying on novice plates just to win a few trophies seems pointless. Novice pots are not always that great looking compared to the main trophies and would it impress your friends to show a shelf full of novice pots?
Quite a few stay on novice plates until they renew their licence just to avoid the extra in-year cost especially if they complete the signatures late in the year.
