It did make me think when I was watching the non-msa at Hooton about the effect that timed qualifying was having on the overtaking that was taking place. The racing is a whole lot cleaner but there is less overtaking. But when I thought about it more, from a drivers point of view it's just pot luck whether you get around the first corner when the grids are mixed up and if you do get round and then start overtaking karts that are 0.5 - 1 second a lap slower than you, then I really don't see the skill in that.

I came to the conclusion that you would learn a lot more by constantly following somebody who is on paper slightly quicker than you. You learn more about the best racing line, where you are ever so slightly quicker / slower than the kart in front, whether you were quick at the start of a race or towards the end of the race. These are skills that cannot be used in mixed grids as you are more than likely either a lot faster, or a lot slower than the person you are racing against until the final race.

Timed qualifying is the way to go IMO. Mixed grids with up to 34 karts (those were the glory days) and 8 lap heats is like putting a bull in a china shop, it's blatantly obvious there will be carnage.
