The first race at Rissington is first weekend of March so you still have plenty of time to decide.
Might be worth contacting them to see how many drivers are needed before they award a trophy (many clubs do 1 trophy for every 5 drivers in each class). This may not be of interest when you start but your lad might feel upset if he came in the top three overall but found there was no trophy for his engine class.
Also worth finding out how much it will cost to get your engines sealed - the engine builder may well want to strip them and reassemble before putting his seal/signature to the engine.
So long as there are enough comers then that could be the best way to go in his first year. The major gain should come from him and bolting on a faster engine immediately could give a false impression of his ability (unless the majority of the grid is on the Iame). You can always change engines later in the season.
If you wee racong at Shenington or Whilton (tracks on the S1 calendar) then going straight to Iame might be the obvious choice as they will probable get good grids.
