The TAG system certainly seems to produce a lot more data - which you may or may not ever look at or use. The two transponders cost about the same so no majior advantage there for anyone joining the sport.
The main issue is that so many people already have the amb transponders and they do last for years. This is just another cost which many will feel is not needed although taken as part of the overall karting costs over a few years it is no going to break anyone's bank.
