Over here in N.Ireland we have a strong tradition of motor racing on the public highway (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8V4ZnAVlO84).

We used to race around Banbridge, Newtownards, Bangor and Carrickfergus and probably a few more before my time. The last road race was around Carrickfergus in 2001, which was always dubbed "the fastest kart road race in the UK" as 250 Formula E karts were reaching speeds of more than 110mph (the police were out with the hairdryers) on the Marine highway.

There has been efforts made to bring back Carrick Road race but so far this has been unsuccessful.
