I think the use of kerbs goes back a long way and I'm sure I've seen old pics where the kerbs really did look like something you wouldn't want to drive on. Presumably they were 'softened' on safety grounds and then perhaps it became impossible to keep people off them. With over a dozen kerbs at each track don't you need a lot of marshalls paying a disproportionate amount of attention to the kerbs in order to enforce this?

I wonder if you could design a kerb that's disadvantageous to drive on but doesn't create a safety issue?
