if its an air cooled engine, for god sake dont polish it, you will reduce its rate of heat rejection, and it will be more prone to over heating......this is why its best to have a rough cast finish as it actually significantly increases the surface area, hence improves the rate of cooling........if you want to clean it up, mask off the important areas and get it sand blasted, it will look like new afterwards
