Hi Rob,
Your profile shows you live in Lincoln so you about 30 minutes away from Trent Valley Kart Club (PFi).
They have a race meeting on the first weekend of the month but are open every day. They used to (probably still do) run a `lets start karting' scheme where you can try the sport at a very low cost.
They have a shop there selling race suits, helmets etc and karts so you could get an idea of costs for buying new.
There are other clubs around you but why not give them a call and pop along to have a look - maybe go to watch the next race meeting and then come back for some more advise.
