It is difficult to say what to do as all kids vary.

One problem can be that your lad is doing corner A fine but going too wide or too tight at corner B. So you sit down and show him the right line for corner B and then find he takes a similar line through corner A and messes that one up.

Often a child only takes in part of what dad says but will listen to a teenage driver or other drivers in their class. One technique You may find that your suggestion seems to be ignored but get the cadet club champion to pop into your awning and say"you looked really good in that session but you have got corner x wrong" then suddenly the advice is accepted.

You could consider hiring a track for a day. Rowrah is a couple of hours from you but they hire out the track - maight cost a couple of hundred pounds for the day (no idea what it is) but you could see if any other Dads want to join in. Take a couple of cones (always seem to be hundreds doing nothing on the motorway) and put one on the apex and another where you want him to brake(bit further back to start with). Then after a couple of laps move it closer to the corner until it seems right. Then do another corner and once both are working, move onto the next one. Could you hire your local track?

A mini camera on the kart would allow you to review laps at home and see if his lines are consistent. You don't need a go pro as a £20 one from ebay will give a decent enough picture for this.

If you can hire your local track you could offer free track time to one of the best cadet drivers on the basis that for some of the time he/she will drive at bambino pace so that your lad can follow and learn the racing lines.

Lots of possibilities but most important is to keep it fun and don;e put pressurs on him.
