Giving real gold to the winners is a great idea for the winners, but it doesn't give the mid to rear pack a chance of anything. These are normally the loyal members racing on a shoe string of a budget but only dream of winning a race let alone a championship.

This gives everyone a chance and rewards loyalty (which is rare these days)
