I'm not an expert either, but the experts I've spoken to say that it could be octane or it could be any other ingredient! it is reasonably well known that pump fuel for the summer has a different tolerance from the Winter and there are aparantly a whole host of other reasons they may add additives to compensate for something missing etc etc Perfectly acceptable to boost road minimums but could take you over the top on MSA racing. You may even be buying a different make of petrol from one signposted as another make!

It was significant the last time someone was suspected of using dodgy fuel. It must still be now the engine tuners seem to prefer the race fuels they use in Europe! Then there's the fact most additives are carcenegenic!
