I disagree if a spring was broken the clutch will fully drive the rear wheels even at idle. To have the axle turning slowly it is more likely to be debris in the clutch or the beginnings of a needle bearing failure.
A full clean and lube of the clutch should cure the problem but a quick fix can be tried by washing out with brake cleaner and then re test. You should then re lube the pins at least so probably the clean up is the best route.
