It depends how big the excess squish is. Bear in mind that machining 1mm off the liner face will alter the combustion chamber volume by approx 2.3cc. The motor will have very poor performance and difficulty starting if the volume is too big.

Also, the port timing is important with respect to how quick the motor will ultimately be, and if you machine too much off, it may limit your options in this regard due to the port timing limits specified in the regs.
