I believe these clutches are not mandatory for club racing but will be for national championships next season.

We were also told at the Max workshop at Kartmania that this is down to a reliability issue and not performance and during testing there was no difference in lap times. I do suspect that due to the completely closed drum it also has something to do with the clutch slipping arguments we have seen this year. The design is different in that it is a metal on metal bind and this in turn will negate the use of oil on the clutch to induce slipping.
